Drawknives

I am fortunate to live in a region where I can inspect and purchase drawknives. In the coming months, I plan to begin refurbishing the quality drawknives and selling them as I finish them. The sharpening and geometry of the edge will ensure that the tool works just as it should and maintaining the edge will be clear and simple. By subscribing to Chairnotes Tools, you will be notified as each new tool becomes available.

  1. Peter,
I am a big fan of yours, I was just in Woodcraft Manchester CT. last week and saw one of your chairs beautiful craftsmanship.
I too live in a region while vintage drawknifes are plentiful and have picked up several with little effort.
My question to you is what angle do you keep them at, I have found many conflicting statements regarding this topic, some say think chisel others says both sides should profiled much like a knife.

    Kind Regards,

  2. Andy,
I prefer to have a distinct bevel on my drawknives to make sharpening more simple and predictable, but if you have a sharp edge on a knife edge type and carefully hone and strop it, you can work fine that way too.

  3. Can't wait to see the ones you offer. Any idea when they might be ready?

  4. The drawknives will be coming along soon. I wanted to wait for the drawsharp to come out so folks could keep them tuned to the level that they are when they arrive,
    thanks
    Pete

  5. I am working on a few other projects that have delayed making the drawknives available, but hope to have them ready in the next couple of months,
